How it all began

The Hampton Lake Women’s Group (HLWG) is an organization for women who are residents or property owners in the community of Hampton Lake, Bluffton, SC. It began as an idea when thirteen women were enjoying lunch together and has grown to over 500 members today. The primary purpose of the HLWG is to promote community, friendships, and social activities among its members.

The first organized meeting of the Women’s Group took place on September 14, 2010. Twelve women volunteered to help set up the group and about 25 women attended the meeting. A Steering Committee was formed to help with the initial organization of the HLWG. The name Hampton Lake Women's Group was adopted at the first General Meeting of the group the following October and from there, a few of the first Interest Groups were formed.

The initial Steering Committee was extremely prolific in the first four months of the formation of the HLWG, writing bylaws, setting up governance, initiating additional Interest Groups and working with the women of the community to create an atmosphere of community.

By April of 2011, the group was producing its own newsletter (NEWS) and compiled a roster of members. The documents were distributed with no cost by email. In 2016, as the organization continued to grow, it was determined that it was necessary to collect annual dues.

Today, the HLWG includes over 500 members with diverse backgrounds, new ideas for Interest Groups continue to inspire and draw women to congregate.  Charitable Giving programs showcase the generosity of the Hampton Lake community and a variety of social and educational activities provide opportunities to foster new friendships, enjoy the company of neighbors and have fun.
