How it all began...
The Hampton Lake Women’s Group (HLWG) is a vibrant organization for women who are residents or property owners in the Hampton Lake community of Bluffton, SC. What began as a casual lunch conversation among thirteen women has since blossomed into a dynamic group of over 500 members.
HLWG’s mission is to build community, foster friendships, and offer a wide range of social and enriching activities for its members.
The group’s first official meeting took place on September 14, 2010, with about 25 women in attendance. A dedicated team of twelve volunteers helped lay the foundation by forming a Steering Committee to guide the organization’s early growth. By October 2010, the group had adopted the name "Hampton Lake Women’s Group" and launched some of its first Interest Groups.
Over the next few months, the Steering Committee focused on establishing a governance structure, and expanding programming through additional Interest Groups—laying the groundwork for a welcoming, connected community.
By April 2011, HLWG was publishing its own newsletter and maintaining a membership roster. As the group flourished, annual dues were introduced in 2016 to support its continued growth and activities.
In 2017, HLWG formally incorporated and became a 501(c)(7) nonprofit social organization, reinforcing its mission and enabling it to operate with greater structure and sustainability. Today, HLWG remains a thriving community of women from diverse backgrounds.
The group’s Charitable Giving Committee plays a key role in coordinating philanthropic efforts and highlighting the generosity of the Hampton Lake community. Through fundraising drives, donation initiatives, and volunteer opportunities, members actively support causes that matter.
Meanwhile, a wide variety of social and educational events continue to provide countless opportunities to make friends, engage with neighbors, and simply enjoy life together.
